Purchase on purpose

If this time has taught me anything, it has reminded me that we must be even more intentional with our time — and our money. For me, this time has highlighted how I spend when it comes to purchasing trendy items instead of classic ones. I would buy the latest trends, and I would maybe get one or two opportunities to wear the clothing. I quickly realized that I didn’t always love those trends, but I love to stay up to date with fashion. 

Here’s the thing: I could do both, but I didn’t have to invest time and money. Instead, I started to look in my closet and set my sights on the classic items that I knew and loved. Then, I did a bit more digging on where to find a few more discounted classic items. 

What’s one of our favorite things about classic items? They’re always in style, of course. I don’t need to jump on social media for inspiration or ideas. These classic items are a natural fit for me, and I can quickly put together an outfit with confidence.

Here are three benefits of purposeful purchases:

1. There’s a story
   I don’t know about you, but I love to share why I bought a certain piece of clothing or an accessory. It could have been about the way the clothes made me feel or the excitement of diligently saving up over time. When you are more purposeful with your purchase, you can take time to evaluate why you are buying an item. If it doesn’t feel worth it, put it back.
2. There’s value
   Sure, some items may increase in value over time, but I’m talking about personal value. The way you feel about a purposeful purchase goes a long way in how you care for an item. It can even be something that you pass along to others, hoping that they, too, would enjoy it. 
3. There’s no doubting 

We’ve all had a little remorse about jumping to buy a trendy item. I’m not saying that this won’t happen again, but spending a bit more time to focus on classic items is a good start. Chanel bag or YSL tote is here. A blazer will always be great. Red lipstick is a worthy purchase.
