3 Ways to Enjoy Home Projects

September 13, 2021 By hautegreyfox

I can’t keep still in my home these days! I’m either rearranging, repainting, or organizing items. You won’t hear any complaints from me, though. I’m loving every minute.

Have you considered home improvement projects or moving some things around for a new look? I’m sharing ways that help me stay focused on the project — and the process. Here are three words to keep in mind: plan, price, and pace.

I hope you consider these tips before your next project. Let me know if they helped you in any way.

Plan

Some people love spontaneity, but I choose to plan. From a mood board to a Pinterest board, it helps to create a clear goal for my project. Without a clear plan, I may end up taking more time — and spending more money. Planning allows time for creativity and critique. Ask yourself these questions.

• Why this color instead of another color?

• Is this the best time for this project?

• Are there visual examples to use as a reference?

Price

Do you remember the planning part of projects? Well, it’s one of the most helpful ways to stay on budget. Create a realistic budget that allows enough wiggle room for adjustments that won’t hurt your wallet. A budget is a guiding factor while shopping. Ask yourself these questions.

• Where can I find items at an affordable price?

• Is there a similar item that works, too?

• Should this item take up so much of my budget?

Pace

Life is unpredictable. You may need to pause on your project to care for yourself or your family. The items you ordered may no longer be available — or slow to arrive. If you started a project without leaving breathing room for adjustments, you’ve set yourself up for disappointment. Everyone needs a break. Enjoy this project so that it doesn’t feel like unpleasant work. Ask yourself these questions.

• Does my timeline leave room for breaks (holidays, birthdays, etc.)?

• Do I have backup items in case my top choice is out of stock?

• Is this a time-sensitive project that requires a professional (bathroom or kitchen, for example)?
