Adventures In Las Vegas – Haute Grey Fox
When Mr. HGF announced that he wanted to go to Las Vegas, let’s just say I was less than enthusiastic. I had never visited Las Vegas before, but I envisioned “Sin City” as a place with smoke filled casinos packed with tourist trying to strike it rich and obnoxious people walking around in drunken stupors etc.
Well that was not the case at all. “Sin City” was so amazing that I haven’t stopped talking about it. We arrived in Vegas at 9:00 a.m. dropped off our luggage and spent the next 6 days discovering exactly what makes Las Vegas such a popular tourist destination!
The hospitality was first class! We stayed at the Desert Sands Resort. This is where I met Julie, a member of the staff where we stayed. Julie was simply amazing and absolutely beautiful! She shared so much about Vegas! Places to visit while we were in town, the best shopping locations, great food spots, you name it and she knew it. (I know without a doubt that if we lived closer we would be BFF’s)
Visually Las Vegas was so exciting, flashing lights, people cheerfully walking around, the architecture was so amazing I saw the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, A pyramid, Gigantic life size statues and other structures that were beyond amazing. The fountain display with flashing lights music playing to a rhythmic melody was simply breathtaking.
Casinos
The casinos were so lively! The sound of bells, wheels turning, decks of cards, roulette, black jack, poker you name it! You heard laughter, saw serious poker faces and even the screams from lucky winners. What also surprised me was the Casinos were also very beautiful. The entrances were so grand and complete with themes. Many looked like villages complete with painted (sky) ceilings that reminded me of the perfect weather on a beautiful day. Tucked within each casino were restaurants with so many delicious food choices that it was hard to decide. And yes, my favorite drink of choice… I literally saw a Starbucks coffee shop almost on every corner….so I was a happy girl. I am not a big drinker, but I love my Starbucks!
Many of the locations were a-m-a-z-i-n-g but two locations were so memorable that when I think about them it takes me back to the wonderful scent of flowers wafting through the air. The first location is the Venetian where the interior looked like Venice complete with gondola rides. When we walked through the door of Bellagio we noticed a glass etched floral display on the ceiling that was eye catching.
We meandered a little further and stumbled on this fall wonderland village complete with a talking tree, a scarecrow, bears, raccoons, horses and beautiful fall foliage, a giant cornucopia filled was with goodies, it was simply magnificent. We walked further and saw this giant chocolate display with white and dark chocolate falling from the ceiling on this contraption that reminded me of the Willy Wonka chocolate factory…. It was amazing! I was childlike as I watched the chocolate fall down in large drifts.
Hotels
The following day we went to the Wynn Hotel. It was just as enchanting, complete with a carousel made with flowers, the floor was covered with flowers, the horses were covered with flowers, huge balls suspended from the ceiling were covered with flowers they even had a replica hot air balloon that was covered with flowers. As you can image the smell of fresh flowers was delightful. This is without a doubt the most magnificent floral display that I have ever witnessed.
Halloween displays were very detailed and fun to look at. And if you dare ride the gigantic Ferris wheel called the “high roller” you could see the entire city.
Food
The restaurants were five star. I am a huge foodie, so it was important to eat at good restaurants. Each time we travel to various locations I looked at the menu to see if they have shrimp and grits…. we literally stumbled on this spot called Yardbird Southern Table and Bar. I was so excited that they had shrimp and grits on their menu. Though reluctant to try their shrimp and grits because I thought where would they would get fresh shrimp in the middle of the dessert. I took a chance and those shrimp and grits were the best that I have eaten at any restaurant anywhere. The only thing that was left on my plate were the shells from the shrimp… If they were edible I probably would have eaten those also.
Shopping
There was just so much to do, but what I love most about Vegas is the SHOPPING! The shopping was simply incredible and everywhere you looked you could find, designer clothes, bags, and shoes. There was Fashion Show, Crystals, Bellagio, The Forum, The Grand Canal Shoppes, Souvenir shops, Outlet malls, you name it and they had it. I knew I found my Sin when I saw the Gucci store with the bag that I wanted. Keisha help me pick out the perfect bag and belt. I shopped so much I had to buy a separate suitcase to bring my new goodies home. I also had some items shipped from one of the Bellagio shops. So yes, I was slightly out of control, but there were no taxes and I just could not resist the incredible deals I got, especially at the outlet malls.
Shows
I think one of my favorite highlights from the trip was the Cirque du Solei Michael Jackson show! It was incredible! The Cirque Du Solei was my favorite show in Las Vegas, it was simply outstanding.
So if I had to grade Las Vegas, I would give it five stars because it literally has something for everyone!
We were there for 6 days and simply ran out of time! So we did not get to see all that we planned to see, but this just gives us an excuse to return to finish up where we left off. So if you are on the fence like me, I promise you will not be disappointed.
Here are some of my favorite photos from the trip so I can share a little bit more about my experience with you!
