I have been obsessed with fashion for as long as I can remember. My grandmother tells this story (every holiday…apparently I was the only child who did embarrassing things) of me accompanying her to a department store. While she was busy talking with a sales associate I wandered down to the shoe aside and tried on a pair of shoes. My grandmother didn’t realize I had these shoes on until we were leaving the store. She reasoned with me to take the shoes off as I threw a huge tantrum. From that moment on I have been obsessed with all things fashion, especially shoes. When I was old enough to take home economics I learned how to sew. I made clothes that perfectly fit my body…which was a good thing since I was often teased because I was very tall and awkwardly proportioned. Clothes off the rack just did not fit my body well, so making my own clothes was necessary to create the look that I was seeking. Also, when I made my clothes, people started to notice me for the first time in my life. It wasn’t long after this recognition and new found popularity that I realized how clothes had the ability to transform.
This casual outfit brings out my playful self. This butter soft leather jacket is by Vince. I love the fitted look of this jacket and wear it leggings, skinny jeans, pants and it even looks great with skirts. I chose a merino wool turtle neck sweater to wear underneath. Turtle neck sweaters are a great wardrobe staple because they complement a look without overpowering it.
I chose a simple but elegant necklace and earrings from Jcrew to wear with this outfit. I completed the look with these great over the knee boots that can also be folded under the knee for a fab look!
So whether you want to create a look that says playful, demur, chic, or just plain fabulous, clothing has the ability to create another self or persona. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different styles, even those that you wouldn’t ordinarily wear. Ciao foxes and don’t forget the right outfit can help bring out your fabulous “Alter Ego!!”
