#AD – You hear it all the time: With age, comes more life lessons, changes, and maybe a few gray hairs. People forget to mention the hot flashes that pop up during the day at work or the personal summer you experience while you’re strolling down the aisle at the grocery store.
“Oh. Hello, menopause.”
While the average age of menopause is 51 years old, women can experience this change earlier — or later. I’m one of those women, and lately, I’ve had to do a little preaching to myself.
So, as beads of sweat begin to slide down your face during what are often the most public and inconvenient times, here are three things to remind you that you’re a Haute Grey Fox.
1. Remember, you’re not alone. You’ve got a squad.
I’m passionate about my squad because these ladies are literally walking with me through life — turning down the thermostat and bringing me a cold class of water. Read my last post to learn more.
When I’ve had a hot flash in the middle of big presentation, I call my girls. Who do you call? With my squad, we can sit back and laugh at fashion disasters, rejoice because we have moved past personal and professional obstacles, and pinpoint amazing memories. I’m at the age, where I know the type of people that I need in my squad. I encourage you to do the same.
2. Confidence — you’ve got it!
By now, I hope that you know you are special! This doesn’t depend on who you know, where you grew up, or what you do for a living. You are a beautiful person, and your confidence should not be dependent upon others. Walk with boldness, compassion, and joy as you lead, live and love others well.
Yes, you’re going through menopause, but just add this to another obstacle that you will tackle. You are still the amazing person who leads your team, family and friends.
3. You know what works
With each year, I look back at a few photos and do a double-take. “What in the world was I wearing?” Or, “Oh, that lip might have been a little too bold.” The exciting thing about celebrating one more birthday is that you can take some notes from the past.
Hot flashes or not —you know how turquoise makes your eyes pop or how a plum-colored lipstick sets the tone. You also remember how much you enjoyed wearing wedges over those not so comfortable stilettos. Keep those notes, and have fun with your style!
As I’ve gotten older, my squad goals have changed, my personal and professional goals have become more settled, and I am experiencing the joy of living on this planet a little bit longer. I like to think that I’m fine-tuning my personal sense of style and also the style in which I live my life. Looking for resources?
