What’s the one thing that has been sitting on your personal to-do list? You know — the things that we put to the side or delay because of time or other circumstances. It could be finalizing plans for your dream vacation, booking your first session with a counselor, or in my case … finally getting braces.
If y’all have been following me on the ‘gram, you’ve seen me slowly work the camera with a new smile. At times, I feel like I’m back in high school adjusting to something new while everyone looked on to see how the next few days would be.
Yes, I finally circled back to something that had been on my list. While others may not have noticed, getting braces has been on my mind for a while. Of course, there’s always the top question: Why now?
My response: Why not?
Do you have something that you want to do that typically is done earlier in life? Whether it’s getting braces, going back to school, or training for a marathon, it’s important to you. Age doesn’t dictate our lives. I simply have gratitude for another year of life and another opportunity to do something new.
Here are three reasons to finish your list:
1. Time and circumstances are not guaranteed
Disclaimer: I’m not encouraging you to do something unwise or dangerous. However, I am encouraging you to live with the reality that our lives can change. Seasons can change. Health can change, too.
2. The next generation is watching
It’s up to our generation to remind younger women of how much they can do without sticking to the standards of society. It’s not too late to learn another language. It’s not too late to ask for a promotion. It’s not too late to reconsider your decision.
3. Eliminate the “what if” moments
I want to live knowing that I tried my hardest to reach my goals, challenge myself, and push the limits of stereotypes. If there’s something on your personal to-do list, start planning to make it happen.
I challenge you to try something new during this season of life. Big or small — it’s important to you. That’s what matters.

I’m seriously considering braces for my bottom teeth. Just invisalign but still. Why at 65? As you said, why noT? I Love your attitude.
